Give Me Aural!

This week, I am trying something new just to see how it goes. If it works, maybe it will even become a thing around here.

In today’s allegedly fast-paced society, even those of us who love “Lesbians in My Soup”  cannot always be bothered to read all of those pesky words.

So what if I read the words to you? What if I find other people to read the words to you? I can’t possibly make it any easier on you than that, can I?

First up, let’s try It’s Dave’s Fault (The Blame Game)”.  I posted the text a couple weeks back. Now here is my friend, Adri, reading it:

Next, I am kicking things up a notch with Dead Meat.  Aesop does the voice for this one with me on guitar and loop pedal:

Finally, I’ll finish off with a little more of me noodling around on the guitar and loop pedal:

You can just play each track here on this page, or else you can download them as wav files, which iTunes can then convert into the mp3 format. So now you can listen LiMS while you jog or make it your ring tone for when your mom calls or even... I don’t know. Whatever it is you kids are doing with all your sounds these days.

Thanks to Adri and Aesop for all their help. This was a first effort. The next batch will be... different.

  1. Downloading won't work for me on this connection because it's so damned slow. I'll try again at home. Would be interesting to hear Adri's voice. Maybe someday we can hear yours too.

    1. Hi, Bill! I didn't realize how late I was posting until YOU became the first person to comment, haha...

I might do one someday. It's more interesting (to me) to hear other people read them. I know how they sound in my head, but that's not always the way they sound best.

      We'll see...

  2. Podcast! If you make your posts into podcasts, I would love you extra forever. The production and sound is magnificent and I think you'd grow your following. You'd have at least one downloader/follower because I loved this!

    1. I hadn't even considered a podcast...

It might work. MOST of my posts are more rhythmic than the two here, so the results might be interesting if I tried to do occasional podcasts. Especially since it appears I already have TWO votes in favor it it...

      Hmmm.

  3. Podcasts are also my extreme cup of tea, er soup. Yes please!
And I love the new project

    1. I'm going to have to look into podcasting. I don't know anything about it, frankly.

When we were about half way through "Dead Meat" (first take, by the way, using only one mic), I thought, "I think this might be something I want to do again!"

  4. I'd messed around with this as part of Subversify Radio back when I wrote for them. Didn't get that many hits - you've got far more readers than I nowadays, so you might find it worth your while.

Good on you for thinking (kinda) out of the box....

    1. A mutual contact who has spoken to you on the phone says you SOUND like a dj.

Anyway, I was on a site that had this application installed where blind people (I guess) could listen to the blog post.

But it was just a phonetic application. It would never work for most of my posts, where tone and inflection and cadence sort of matter.

So I might try to post the audio with some of my new posts as I post them. We'll see how ambitious I'm feeling, since it will slow down my posting process...

    2. I've been a DJ, Katy - I used to host something called "New Vistas In Music" here in Portland in the early '90's on a volunteer radio station; basically it was something to do of an evening when I'd probably be either masturbating or watching the telly (there wasn't an internet back then).

Every now and again I run into one of my fifteen or twenty listeners from back in the day. Eerie.

As to Subversify Radio - the interview I did with Mikey Weinstein of the Military Religious Freedom Foundation is in three parts on YouTube, where it's (sort-of) archived; the podcast-site is long since down....

    3. I knew you'd done some radio stuff - that doesn't always mean that you'd still sound like a dj. Robert Plant used to be a rock star/sex symbol type. You wouldn't guess it looking at him now.

I think I'm starting to miss a world without the internet.

  5. This is a pretty brilliant idea. You're blog is an audio blog now. Or a mini-podcast or something. Very cool though.

    1. No one recognizes how bad Dave is for our society.

I don't know if you meant to, but I think you might have solved our dilemma from earlier about what to call an aural blog - "Blorg".

  10. Lets leach DAVE dude

Internet vigilantism is on the rise. So far, digital avengers have more or less limited their activities to shaming and exposing pedophiles, con men, giant douchebags and some Dude named DAVE. However, one can easily see a future where the moral-minded folks dish their harsh citizen justice out on anyone who steps outside the tight parameters of their idea of acceptable behavior.

December 27th 1975 - February 1st 1988, the world was such a magical place for that 12 years and 5 weeks. The time of pure magic and joy. The time of Heather O`Rourke. For the next 10,000 years there will NEVER EVER be a more glorious or perfect time ! ! !.

    1. It was fun!

Although it's not the one getting the attention, doing "Dead Meat" was about the most fun I've had doing anything for a while. We did it in one take - which explains the screw-ups.

But about halfway through, I thought, "This is how I want all of my future blogs presented. Aesop will read and I will play noise behind them!"
