Three jobs. I have three part-time jobs right now and the thing is, that is the way I aim to keep it.
There is the once in a while, when I think of maybe going respectable. Of finding a single full-time job more closely matching my educational credentials. A job that has health care and dental and a matching 401k plan. A job that would impress somebody, anybody, in case I ever find anybody who I want to impress and who is of a type impressed by that sort of thing.
Actually, who am I kidding? Almost everybody is impressed by that sort of thing.
I can see it all now: I could get myself one of those impressive jobs you always read about. The kind I see on the television. The kind my grandmother is always sending me job ads for. Then I’d sit in my highrise corner office with my name on the door and some impressive title that the company invented just for me.
I’d work fourteen-hour days and I’d have a beach house and my blog would be filled with pictures from my annual vacations to places like Paris and Rome and some city in Thailand. I would change the name of this blog to something like “The Good Life,” but I would almost never post here, what with my fourteen-hour work days and early onset carpal tunnel syndrome and all.
Yeah, there is the once in a while, when I think of maybe going respectable, but then there is the rest of the time. And the rest of the time? I think I’m living just about right.
Tomorrow, I am going to tell you a story, and the story will show you what I mean.
And if I don’t get around to writing the story tomorrow, try and remember that I am juggling three part-time jobs at the moment.
